Gas transport system consisting of twin 24” diameter pipelines long about 380 km each crossing the Black Sea from Russia to Turkey, at a maximum water depth in excess of 2,150 m.

Considered the most challenging deep water pipeline ever completed for the combination of water depth and diameter. Very difficult seabed conditions on both Turkish and Russian sides, unfavourable weather conditions made the project a milestone in the entire industry.

The project involved the construction of the new Canal from km 60 to km 95, in addition to  the deepening the existing western by-passes of 37 km total length to a depth of 24m (66ft draught); and digging of 35km of a new parallel waterway, to a depth of 24m, and a width of 317m at water level, enabled the new channel accommodate vessels with up to 66 ft. draught. It also doubled the longest possible parts of the waterway to facilitate traffic in the two directions and minimize the waiting time for transiting ships.

What made this project special was the involvement of our three major Clients in performing the work. Each display its own expertise and capabilities, without competing to the other. The biggest was involved in the mobilization of ships from its own Heavy Lift Vessels (HLVs) fleet; the second was engaged in subcontracting deck carriers and HLVs from third parties to transporting monopiles and transition pieces from yards in the Netherlands and Germany; and the 3rd is engaged in dredging and installation work.
